Foam proudly presents the work of a new generation of artists in the group exhibition 

. The 20 participating photographers address the pressing problems of our times. Together, they explore and extend the boundaries of what photography is today.   

As a diverse group of artists, each of them presents their own visual language. Through their works, they critically look at the world around us. They use the photographic medium to question collective affairs and ongoing issues happening in the world. At the same time, they explore how these issues have an impact on a personal level, moving between a local, historical, symbolic, emotional and bodily perspective. 

This group of artists uses a wide range of photographic genres to tell their stories. With portraiture and documentary photography, digital created images and archival material, the talents create a space for the viewer to sit with situations and current events, to reflect and respond to.   

Complementing the physical experience at Foam, this digital exhibition offers a deeper look at the Talents and their works. What goes on behind the surface? What is the inspiration? What techniques are used? This exhibition combines artistic context with educational perspectives. Read, see, and hear more about the themes and topics and explore, engage, and interact with the works!

 is an ongoing investigation into the disappearance of ecosystems and environments rich in flora and fauna in Pakistan.  shows the result of a long-term photographic investigation into the process and effects of gentrification and the social inequality it generates. Foam shows

I would very often come across sensual, young, attractive white models running around being free and having so much fun – the kind of stuff Larry Clark and Ryan McGinley would make. I very seldom saw the same for black people in images – or at least in the photography I knew of then.

Foam Editions is proud to present the work &ldquo;[read: quotation mark], by emerging artist Fr&eacute;d&eacute;rique Albert-Bordenave on Friday evening March 6.

The evening starts with a screening of the trailer Fr&eacute;d&eacute;rique created to announce the book, after which Foams&rsquo; curator Mirjam Kooiman will shortly lead a Q&amp;A with the artist. The publication &ldquo;, in a limited edition of 10, balances between being a book and an artwork. Taking hybridity as a starting point, it consists of a collection of fragments of different writings, disciplines and media exploring the topics of space and time and their respective limitations. Those limitations led to the acknowledgement and appreciation of an alternate interpretation of time and space through shadows. Space, time and shadows become objects of study, seen through cultural references such as cinema, academic texts, novels or from the unexpected architectural perspective of the artist&rsquo;s balcony.
Albert-Bordenave ambitiously gives shape to an age-old discussion of space and time, both elements that are defined by their indefiniteness, which is visualized by the very shape of the book. The transparent pages can be read individually, but also appear as windows to the next page, allowing us to see the architecture of the space-time continuum a book itself essentially is. ABOUT FR&Eacute;D&Eacute;RIQUE ALBERT-BORDENAVE Fr&eacute;d&eacute;rique Albert-Bordenave (1994) is a Canadian-born, Amsterdam based artist who graduated in Architectural Design. In her work Fr&eacute;d&eacute;rique explores and speculates on alternatives to our spatial and temporal perception.&nbsp;Albert-Bordenave was selected for the 3Package Deal programme of the Amsterdam Fonds voor de Kunst (AFK) by the coalition of De Appel, Bureau Rietveld and Foam. Under the guidance of representatives of each institution, among which Foam&rsquo;s curator Mirjam Kooiman, the artist was offered a studio space and working budget for the year of 2018/2019. Stimulating and facilitating top talent with affordable living and working space, budget and a network is the aim of the 3Package Deal. This successful program of the AFK and Bureau Broedplaatsen (BBp) in collaboration with renowned Amsterdam institutions is now regarded as best practice in the field of talent development.

Foam reflects on the banlieue with artist Sol&egrave;ne G&uuml;n in an evening dedicated to her work and the launch of her new book Turun&ccedil;.

The evening starts with an introduction of G&uuml;n and her work by Foam curator Mirjam Kooiman, who also curated her current exhibition <a href="https://foam.org/museum/programme/solene-gun-turunc">Foam 3h: Sol&egrave;ne G&uuml;n &ndash; Turun&ccedil;</a>. G&uuml;n portrays the everyday life of young men of Turkish backgrounds in the suburbs of Paris and Berlin. Her work is about the general phenomenon of life in the suburbs, and the negative stereotyping imagery its inhabitants are confronted with. The suburbs in her work become a universe apart, out of sight or interest of the public authorities, where a lack of perspective goes hand in hand with strong mutual solidarity.

After a Q&amp;A between artist and curator, they will be joined by art director Nicolas Poillot with whom G&uuml;n collaborated in the development of her book. Together, the three will discuss her book Turun&ccedil;. Finally, urbanist Wouter Pocornie will join the panel and offer an urban perspective on the philosophy behind the architecture and urban planning of the suburbs of major cities. Pocornie will highlight neighbourhoods in Amsterdam, such as the Bijlmer. Foam curator Mirjam Kooiman will moderate the discussion, which can be continued over drinks in the Foam Caf&eacute; after the event.
ABOUT SOL&Egrave;NE G&Uuml;N Sol&egrave;ne G&uuml;n studied photography at ECAL (CH). In 2018 she received the Photoforum Prize 2018 and the Swiss Design Awards 2019 for her graduation project Turun&ccedil;. The series was also shortlisted for the MACK First Book Award in 2019. Sol&egrave;ne G&uuml;n lives and works in Bienne (CH).

For Tohu wa-Bohu, Stephan Keppel scratches the surface of the Nijmegen&rsquo;s reconstruction buildings. Most parts of the city centre were totally destroyed by a United Army Air Force bombing during World War II. The remarkable tiles are an important part of the postwar architecture. Keppel translates this grid into risoprints for the Tohu wa-Bohu project. Official opening: Changing Views & Lilian Kreutzberger

From 3 May, Foam presents the elusive and mysterious work of Lilian Kreutzberger in the Foam 3h exhibition Whiteandgold &amp;&amp; Blackandblue.

Lilian Kreutzberger&nbsp;(1984, Netherlands) is trained as a painter but in her conceptual projects, she combines photographic techniques with other media such as sculpture and architecture. In her project Whiteandgold &amp;&amp; Blackandblue, the artist investigates the experience of material and space in the digital domain. Her multimedia work, which has a strong photographic dimension, is elusive and mysterious, and at the same time very tangible. Foam 3h displays a combination of reliefs, sculptural works and collages.

Foam presents I Can Make You Feel Good, photographer and filmmaker Tyler Mitchell's (1995, US) first solo exhibition.

Alongside a selection of images from the artist&rsquo;s personal and commissioned work, Foam is also premiering two of Mitchell&rsquo;s video works: Idyllic Space and Chasing Pink, Found Red.&nbsp;With these audiovisual installations, the artist explores a sense of play and childlike freedom for black youths.
Tyler Mitchell&rsquo;s work visualises a black utopia. Making use of candy colour palettes and natural light, Mitchell captures young black people in gardens, parks or in front of idyllic studio backdrops where they appear as free, expressive, effortless, sensitive and proud.&nbsp;The utopia that Mitchell creates, makes one realise how highly it contrasts with the way reality is represented. He produces holistic imagery of individuals from his community and brings their humanity to the forefront.
In 2018, Mitchell wrote history with his photographs of Beyonc&eacute; gracing the cover of two different editions of American Vogue&rsquo;s &lsquo;September Issue&rsquo;. Only 23 at the time, he became the first black photographer to make the cover in the 126-year existence of the prominent magazine. This along with many other accomplishments has made him one of the most closely watched up-and-coming talents in photography today.

As a teenager, Mitchell spent a lot of time on Tumblr, a social media platform utilised by young photographers as a space to share their work. It&rsquo;s a period of time which would become heavily influential on his vision, as Mitchell explained, &ldquo;I would very often come across sensual, young, attractive white models running around being free and having so much fun &ndash; the kind of stuff Larry Clark and Ryan McGinley would make. I very seldom saw the same for black people in images &ndash; or at least in the photography I knew of then.&rdquo;

ABOUT THE PREMIERING VIDEO WORKS In Idyllic Space &ndash; one of two video works in the exhibition &ndash; young black people enjoy simple pleasures, such as eating ice cream, hanging around the pool and playing tag. Mitchell cites the 2014 killing of Tamir Rice &ndash; a 12-year-old boy who was shot by Cleveland police while playing outside with a toy pellet gun &ndash; as an urgent call-to-action, Mitchell&rsquo;s video installation highlights the mindless activities many of us take for granted, to the point of being overlooked, as a bold visual reminder that these moments have historically been denied or discouraged among black people.
The video installation Chasing Pink, Found Red leaves little to nothing for speculation. A camera pans over a group of young black youths in a park on a warm summer day. However, the scene is punctuated by commentary crowdsourced by Mitchell from his followers on social media. In these sound bites, their voices express frustrations about their own experiences of racism and prejudice. The contrast of the commentary with the video&rsquo;s optimistic imagery raises the notion that since an early age it is commonly built into a black youth&rsquo;s psyche that they should be careful about being too off-guard in public for fear of persecution and even violence.
ABOUT TYLER MITCHELL Tyler Mitchell is a photographer and filmmaker living and working in Brooklyn, NY. His career started at an early age: filming skate videos and documenting the music, fashion and youth culture in Atlanta. In 2017, he graduated from NYU Tisch School of the Arts with a B.F.A. in Film &amp; Television. By this time, he had already published his first photobook El Paquete (2015), in which he captured the architecture and lively skateboard culture in Havana, Cuba. In his first years of college, he started making video clips for music acts and shot campaigns for Givenchy, American Eagle and Marc Jacobs, amongst others. In 2018, he made history when he photographed Beyonc&eacute; for the cover of the American Vogue&rsquo;s September Issue. He has participated in various group exhibitions by Aperture Foundation, Red Hook Labs and Artsy. His work will also be shown in Foam Magazine #53: The Fashionable Issue, including an exclusive interview with the renowned curator and art critic Hans Ulrich Obrist (expected in April).
