About Curtly Thomas
Curtly Thomas (UK) is a visual artist living in London. His creative practice focuses on photography, sound and performance. Through it, he explores how fiction informs reality as well as the power of bodies to propel individual and communal radical potential. Curtly Thomas has previously performed in solo and in different collaborative settings at spaces such as Auto Italia (London), Kampnagel (Hamburg), Café OTO (London) and the South London Gallery (London). He is a current recipient of the LOEWE FOUNDATION/Studio Voltaire Award.
Through his experimentation with textures, movements and rhythms, Curtly Thomas explores the notion of the underground as a mythical place: one in which different times and places simultaneously coexist and overlap.
About of life of love of sex of movement of hope by Liz Johnson Artur
The exhibition celebrates daily events and brings them together as a form of storytelling in an attempt to elevate human emotion. Drawing from Liz Johnson Artur's expansive thirty-year-long Black Balloon Archive, the artist's work develops around photographs and their encounters with people. While capturing moments, her photography engages in a constant process of dialogue. Johnson Artur places the photographs into different contexts to explore new ways to see the surfaces and moments represented in a picture.
This exhibition is made possible by Fonds 21.
Foam is supported by the VriendenLoterij, Foam Members, De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, the VandenEnde Foundation and Gemeente Amsterdam.
