West Side Stories, the project location of Foam Photography Museum Amsterdam, has six elderly residents and six youngsters (14 to 18) visit and portaying eachother.The project results in an exhibition for the neighbourhood at West Side Stories as well as a series of postcards.

Now that West Side Stories is halfway through its project, it's time to show the most extraordinary results. Pictures are exhibited on billboards throughout the district .The photos have been made ​​by children, adolescents, adults and the elderly: a unique look at District 5.

The Promote Yourself workshop was held for young people between 16 and 21 from the Amsterdam Nieuw-West district on 26 & 27 August, from 13:00-17:00.

What's behind your front door? What does the house of the people across the street look like inside? In the Nieuw-West, Thuis Best [At Home in Nieuw-West] exhibition, for and about area residents, West Side Stories took a peek behind the neighbourhood's front doors to show how residents live.

As a feature of the Set Amsterdam exhibition in Foam Amsterdam, photographer Dana Lixenberg held a three-part photography workshop at West Side Stories.

The festive kick-off of Express Your Best takes place on 30 March.
Young people from the Nieuw-West district will have the chance to get acquainted with a variety of artistic and cultural activities which will be offered in Buurt 5 this year. There are workshops by Foam, UCee Station and Studio West.

Digital cameras are not household objects for most 80 year olds. Foam invited the elderly residents of the A.H. Gerhardhuis* to rediscover the medium of photography. After taking a crash course in portrait photography, they went to work with digital cameras. By photographing one another, the senior citizens got to know each other better and also were introduced to digital photography, often for the first time.

During the autumn holiday, young people from Amsterdam New-West had the opportunity to work with a professional photographer. The Dutch-Turkish photographer Ahmet Polat presented participatory workshops for them within the scope of his exhibition Kemal's Dream at Foam.

In July 2010, a small group of pupils from the Orion College AG Bell* became acquainted with the Confucius neighbourhood in Amsterdam New-West. They visited the exhibition at the Foam project location and created special portraits of each other. The students also helped to promote the project by distributing flyers to Buurt 5 residents.

The Buurt 5 neighbourhood has become more pleasant to live in thanks to the Portiekportiers*. During a series of photography workshops, the Portiekportiers took special photos of their favourite places in Buurt 5.

West Side Stories also attends festivals in the New-West district, and was active at the Sloterplas Festival 2010.
